Coming to the BVI and not quite sure what to do? There is often more than meets the eye.

For instance at first we thought Tortola originated from the Spanish word for Turtledove but we were recently informed the name comes from “Ter Tholen” in Dutch, perhaps a reference to Tholen a dutch ship. This was then picked up as Tortola by the English, a happy coincidence that we now provide a home for many turtledoves.
