Most establishments and ATMs accept foreign Visa and Master Cards, and sometimes American Express.
If you plan to use a foreign debit card, you may have troubles, as I have run into this problem myself.
If you plan to be living here, it’s advisable to set up a local bank account so that you wont run into any issues at stores or bank machines.
