Could anyone please give advice on using an E bike to go around Tortola? I’m planning a trip and see that there is a rental shop but also hear that the island is rather hilly. Any insights anyone? Thanks
There is a healthy stretch of flat road along Waterfront Drive on the south side of Tortola. It stretches from the east side of Road Town, all the way down past Frenchmans Cay to the Western tip of the island. This is a common bike bath for most riders, as it is the longest and flattest part of road on the island
Be careful riding during busy traffic hours (8:30 – 9:30AM & 4PM – 6PM) when you’re closer to Road Town. It tends to get a bit congested during these times and the edges of roads in this area are particularly shallow.
One great thing about e-bikes is most of them have a pedal assist mode which will make those hills a little more achievable if you feel up to the challenge but note that most local riders stay on Waterfront Drive.
Have fun and don’t forget to wear a helmet!
